MSN History Files

In order to view history files, they must first be turned on with in MSN. To turn on history recording, you must be logged on to the account you wish to enable history recording for.

See below:

Click tools then options

Click on messages then in the Messages history section on the lower right be sure to check automatically keep a history of my conversations , uncheck show my last conversation in new conversation windows , leave the save my folder as the default.

After a few days you can now go back and view the history of each user you have set to record history for. In order to do this we must physically locate these files. See Below

From either the Start menu or Desktop click My Documents , you then click My Received Files , From here you will see a one or more user double click desire account name, then double click the History folder.

You will now see several files in this folder, possible lots. The ones you are interested in are the .xml files . For example as seen below you see four files:

Messagelog.xsl

Whichway_908380722.xml Xmg2231810526074.xml

Zandir3595120181.xml

Messagelong.xsl is a setting file we are not interested in. The files we want to open are the ones that start with xmg223, zandir and whichway, these are the MSN usernames of the people your son/daughter has been talk to, and number after their usernames are just place holders.

To view the contents of their discussion simple double click any of the usernames. This will in turn open up internet Explorer and you will able to view the conversations. To view another conversation simply close Internet Explorer and double click on another username.
