Do I really need a Surge Protector?

A surge protector is an appliance designed to protect electrical devices from voltage spikes. A surge protector attempts to regulate the voltage supplied to an electric device by either blocking or by shorting to ground voltages above a safe threshold.

A power strip is sometimes miscalled a surge protector, although many power strips have surge protection built-in, and are clearly labeled thus.

IF YOU WANT TO PRESERVE THE LIFE OF YOUR COMPUTER AND ITS COMPONENTS, IT IS VERY IMPORTANT TO CONNECT IT TO A SURGE PROTECTOR!
